If your frets look like figure 1, they needed to be dressed a few years ago. “Dressing” the frets means your local guitar mechanic will file them all to the same height, crown each one (so that the string only touches the middle third of the fret wire), then sand and polish them so they look new.
On the slab this weekend is a Gibson “The Paul” model. These were a late 70s/early 80’s budget version of the Les Paul that featured solid Walnut necks with Ebony fingerboards and uncarved Walnut bodies. These would later become the Mahogany “Firebrand” models.
